Topic : Book “Thinking Fast and Slow”
Daniel Kahneman describes two modes:
System 1 (fast) → automatic, intuitive, effortless System 2 (slow) → deliberate, analytical, effortful
We live mostly through fast thinking, but we trust it more than we should. However, it doesn’t mean that we have to always use System 2.
System1 is essential for daily functioning and is quite efficient but prone to baises and shortcuts
System2 is more accurate but lazy and energy intensive
Without fast thinking, life may be paralyzed.
Without slow thinking, errors go unchecked.
Without slow thinking, errors go unchecked.
The key is getting aware of how you think.
1) Are you jumping to conclusions? avoiding efforts or seeking patterns that aren’t there.
2) Just notice when fast thinking is quietly taking over and decide if it’s Okay.
Each person has to take an individual call to see whether he/she needs to engage with System2.
